Big Changes Coming to Costa Rica’s Tax System!

Starting August 2025, the Costa Rican Ministry of Finance will launch the new tax platform TRIBU-CR, under the Hacienda Digital project. This new era will bring automation, real-time control, and improved taxpayer management.

What should you know?


  • As of August 15, all VAT, Capital Gains, and other tax returns must be filed through TRIBU-CR.

  • You must register your mobile number to generate a secure access code.

  • The new system includes a real-time tax account, enabling immediate payments and use of credit balances.

  • A digital inbox system will allow you to receive and send official documents directly with the tax authority.

  • The platform supports 47 procedures under Costa Rican tax regulations.

  • In September, the ATENA customs system will go live, integrating with TRIBU-CR for seamless import/export and tax credit management.
