Here’s what you need to know about the NITE
If you do not have a Costa Rican ID, you’ll need to apply for a NITE (Special Tax Identification Number) to register with the Ministry of Finance (Hacienda).
This number allows you to be identified by the Tax Administration and carry out essential tasks such as:
✅ E-invoicing
✅ Tax declarations
✅ Business registration
Whether you're an investor, business owner, or starting a new venture, having a NITE enables you to operate transparently and, most importantly, be formally registered with the tax authorities.
Important: Obtaining a NITE does not mean you will automatically have to pay taxes.
It’s simply the correct way to be registered in the Costa Rican tax system.
Also, if you plan to sell property or launch a business in the future, having your NITE in place can save you time and simplify the process.
Would you like to get your NITE or check if you already have one?
